Amazing Easter Weekend!
I thought you might like to hear a few things about how God worked this past weekend at NewSpring Church. As you know, it was an awesome celebration of the fullfillment of God’s plan for our redemption. Over 6000 people attended one of the four weekend services! KidzWorld reached 1424 from infants through 5th grades! In Route 252, I talked to the kids about the purpose of Jesus dying on the cross for our sins and in the four services 146 kids either asked Christ to be their Savior or expressed that they had more questions about that. Next weekend we will offer JumpStart classes to help those kids and their parents hear a simple presentation of John 3:16 that they can discuss at home so that the parents can get involved in this most important decision in their child’s life.
Just one special story: I met a dad and son who were leaving the 11:15 service Sunday. The son had been in KidzWorld for the first time and I noticed that he had one of the tracts we gave to the kids who made a decision. Then I looked in the dad’s hand and noticed that he was holding a new believer’s packet. They both told me how much they enjoyed their time at NewSpring. I told them I was glad to see that they had both made a decision to accept Christ. Now that’s a special Easter!!
“Thank you” seems inadequate to express the gratitude that the KidzWorld staff has for all the wonderful KidzWorld volunteers who care so much for children and families. Many of you did double or triple duty this weekend and ALL of you made a difference in someone’s life by being in your place. There is NO WAY IN THE WORLD that KidzWorld could happen without the amazing volunteer team we have in place. We know that God will reward you beyond imagination for the love you have for His children!
Have a wonderful week! Can’t wait to see what He will do next weekend!
Message From Mr Dan
Friendship Shows Up in April
On Easter weekend we will begin studying a new virtue in Rt 252. It will be friendship. We are going to have a great time learning about how to be a true friend like our friend, Jesus. Family Experience will happen that weekend as well. We are very excited about it and trust that all parents will try to attend with their child. Family Experience takes place between the services on Saturday & Sunday. It will be 20 minutes of fun.
Also on that weekend we are asking the kids to invite a friend to one of our four services. Over 75% of kids in Wichita do not attend church on a regular basis, but many families will attend a service on Easter. So encourage you child to invite someone that weekend. There are a lot of fun things planned and your child will not want to miss it.
Just in case you haven’t heard, NewSpring now offers two Saturday services at 5 & 6:30 p.m. and Sunday services are 9:30 & 11:00 a.m. That gives even more options for you to invite your friends to come to NewSpring.
Beware of Experts
This was sent to me this week…
There is no end to well-meaning people with experience who will tell you what is NOT possible. They are experts. They have respect. But because none of us can predict trends with complete accuracy, they simply do not know whether most new ideas will work or not. In their good intentions they are trying to keep you from making a mistake. You came up with an idea they never thought about. So there must be something wrong with it.
Here is a short list of experts who were wrong…VERY wrong.
- Decca Recordings in 1962 rejected the Beatles, saying: “Guitar music is on the way out.”
- In 1876 a Western Union memo advised against purchasing Bell’s telephone patent for $100,000: “This telephone has too many short-comings to be seriously considered as a means of communication. The device is inherently of no value to us.”
- In 1899, Charles H. Duell, chief, U.S. Patent Office, recommended to President McKinley that it be closed because “everything which can be invented has already been invented.”
- Charles Schwab, CEO of Bethlehem Steel, refused to finance the experiments of the Wright brothers, calling their plans for an airplane a “harum-scarum stunt.”
- Marechal Ferdinand Foch in 1912 said, “Airplanes are interesting toys but of no military value.”
- In 1934, Parker Brothers unanimously rejected the game of Monopoly saying, “It is too complicated, it takes too long to play, and people will not like to keep circling a board.”
- In the 1940s Darryl F. Zanuck said, “[Television] won’t be able to hold onto any market it captures after the first six months. People will get tired of staring at a plywood box every night.”
- Thomas Watson, chairman of IBM, predicted in 1943, “I think there is a world market for maybe five computers.”
- A Grand Ole Opry agent in 1955 said to Elvis Presley after hearing his first performance, “You ain’t goin’ nowhere with that son. You ought to go back to drivin’ a truck.”
- In 1964 a studio rejected Ronald Reagan for the role of president in The Best Man, saying, “Reagan doesn’t have the presidential look.”
- A Yale professor awarded a ‘C’ to Fredrick Smith’s senior thesis proposing a private overnight mail delivery service because “The idea is not feasible.” Smith used his idea to start Fed Ex.
- Ken Olsen, president of Digital Equipment Corporation, said in 1977, “There is no reason for any individual to have a computer in their home.”
KidzWorld Camp and Family Experience
We had an awesome response to camp sign-up this year. In fact, we are taking over 90 kids to camp! Right now we have to put kids on a waiting list to see if we can get a few more spots. If you are interested you can email my wife at debbie.kubish@newspring.org to put your child on the list. We are planning to have a fantastic time with all the kids as we take some time away from the usual routine to focus on God and the beautiful outdoors.
This past weekend was Family Experience and we had a blast with the parents as we kicked-off the virtue for the month of March which is honesty. Make sure you don’t miss a single weekend.
Family Experience This Weekend
This weekend is Family Experience in 252 Theater. FE will take place after the Saturday evening service during the XL portion of the service. Then it will take place again between the services on Sunday starting at 10:45 a.m. The program lasts about 20 minutes. All parents are invited to come with their 1st-5th grader for an enjoyable time of laughter, giveaways and learning about the new virtue this month. Please make this a priority in your family’s life. We are going to have a blast so don’t miss it!

KidzWorld Camp at Sky Ranch in Oklahoma
I’m so excited about going to camp this year at Sky Ranch in Quapaw, Oklahoma! This camp is located on 1400 acres with lots of fun activities for the kids. They have a 2000 ft Zipline, waterslide & blob, paintball (10 yrs and older), horseback riding (10yrs and older), paddle boats and much more. The dates of camp will be Sunday, June 13 through Wednesday, June 16. The cost of camp is $199.00 this year which is almost $100.00 cheaper than last year. Camp is open to kids completing the 2nd grade through 5th grade. Camp sign-up will take place on March 6 & 7 after Family Experience. A $75.00 non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your child’s spot. The balance will be due on May 23. Coming soon you will be able to make your deposit online. But it is very important that you register your child early. I know it is only February but good camps fill up fast. Some weeks are already sold out. Space is limited so don’t delay. If you would like to see pictures and some other information about Sky Ranch you can go to www.skyranch.org/cavesprings.
Camp has been a very positive thing for us in KidzWorld the last 4 years and a lot of life changing decisions have been made through camp. It gives a chance for your child to to think about God away from their normal routines. Both Debbie and I believe in camp and how God can move in your child’s life. In fact we will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary on June 15th during camp. How about that for romantic? If you have any other questions feel free to email me at dan.kubish@newspring.org.
