Just a few days ago, we hosted a family fun night and concert at Central Park in Andover. This is the second year offering this event and the turnout was fantastic! We offered many free activities for the whole family to enjoy beginning at 5 p.m. Then at 6:30, NewSpring Kansas Worship led us in an evening filled with incredible music. The highlight of the night was the response by 271 people to the invitation to begin a relationship with Jesus! And then we celebrated with a spectacular fireworks display. The school year is coming to an end which brings a lot of excitement, but also the drastic change in schedule can leave everyone a little bit out of sorts. If you are looking for a great idea to help your family stay focused this summer, why not memorize a section of scripture together? It might be as simple as one verse that becomes your family motto. Or maybe you are up for memorizing a whole section or chapter. Think about what you want your family to focus on getting better at and find some scripture that matches. Doing it together as a family makes it that much more special!

Every time an airplane prepares for take-off, there is a standard procedure of reviewing safety precautions. One part of that speech includes information about what to do if the cabin loses pressure and oxygen masks fall from the ceiling. Part of that precaution is that an adult should have their own mask in place and working BEFORE assisting their child. Why is that? Well, it’s because you can’t very well help your child if you aren’t able to breathe yourself.

It’s the same way with our relationship with God. As parents (and grandparents, aunts, uncles, caring adults), we need to be keeping a healthy relationship with God through prayer, Bible study, sharing our faith, and interacting with other believers. When our relationship with God is strong, then we are able to guide our children into God’s Truth. What a privilege we have to impact the next generation to know and love God.

And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

The most important decision your child will ever make is their decision about a personal relationship with Jesus. Children have a natural openness to God and His love. And they also have lots of questions about God. If you would like to have some tools to begin discussing these things with your elementary-age child, you and your child are invited to attend JumpStart. JumpStart is a 30 minute session led by the KidzWorld staff at NewSpring Church. It goes over a very familiar verse in the Bible, John 3:16, and provides a great way for you to have a discussion with your child about what it means to have a relationship with Jesus. Did you know that KidzWorld has its own YouTube channel? We use it to post video versions of our weekend services from Baby Bay, Adventure Avenue, 252 Theater, and Studio 45. We also post a couple of mid-week videos designed to insert a little boost to what we are learning on the weekend. These videos can help your child keep up with what we are learning whenever they can’t come to KidzWorld. It also gives parents and other influential adults an opportunity to review the Bible stories with kids for more reinforcement at home.
